Nowadays cable television is extremely common to every household. Nearly every house has a cable connection, because the VCR and dish antenna are now obsolete. The cable offers hoards of entertainment for all, like BBC for dad, cartoons for kids and dramas for mom. So as long as everybody is happy nobody thinks of its drawbacks. One more important fact is that it's cheap and costs only about Rs200 to Rs300 a month which nearly everyone can afford.
It also saves one from the hassle of bringing cassettes and CDs and returning them on time. These cable operators have their own channel on which they show the latest movies, not only do they show it, they repeat it continuously for a whole week or so that everybody gets to see it. Those who are old enough to think about their future can control themselves from the magnetic force of the cable, but what about the kids, they don't care about their exams and would rather spend their time in front of the TV set enjoying themselves rather than studying. This results in a complete waste of time.
Think about it:
if there was no cable, people would be using their time in a more useful way like offering prayers, studying and exercising. It usually has a bad impact on children, some parents are proud of the fact that their daughters dance like some actress shown on these channels. In countries like America and England it is seen that parents have better control over their children, like they put their kids to sleep at a fixed time (9pm or so) and only permit them to watch cartoons and movies suitable for their age.
As the cable culture prevails more and more people are attracted to it, even the newborn child opens his eyes in front of this filmi world and as he grows up wishes day and night that he could also become a star some day. It's not just that the younger generation is getting spoilt with this cable culture, but it is also their health, that is deteriorating day by day. Like when kids come home from school the first thing they do is check different channels to see which film is going on. They stay glued to the television for hours and hours and as a result they won't eat or sleep on time. This affects their growth and development adversely. What happen at the end of the day is that the poor child is so tired that he is unable to complete his homework.
In our society this cable culture prevails like a web disrupting our social and moral values and spreading violence and vulgarity. I think, the cable culture is not an able culture.
